2009 recap

January – Sailed from Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida to Isla Mujeres Mexico on New Years day. Mom and Don visited Mexico for a week of sailing and inland travel to Mayan Ruins.

February- Explored Yucatan coast of Mexico, Bahia de la Ascension, Bahia Del Espirito Santo and Cozumel.

March- Inland travel to Merida, Yucatan Mexico for Spanish School while waiting for boat parts at Puerto Aventura.

April – Cruised pristine outer reefs of Belize, Lighthouse reefs' Blue Hole, Glovers and Turneffe seeing lots of sharks, ship wrecks and eating plenty of seafood including a new favorite, conch. We even spotted a huge crocodile while setting a stern anchor in the dark.

May- Sailed up the awesome 600' tall river gorge cut through the jungle clad mountains of the Rio Dulce river in Guatemala. Heard about an Atlantic 42' cat might be for sale (LightSpeed). Traveled to Honduras via bus to see prospective new boat and struck a deal. Within days we sailed Pacifica (old catamaran 800 miles direct to Florida in record time. Crossed Okeechobee waterway from West Florida to East Florida and got a good scare from a sever squall and close call with a water spout.

June- Prepared Pacifica for sale in Florida and continued to work on the complicated transaction to purchase new boat LightSpeed.

July- Took delivery of new boat and sailed from Honduras to Guatemala then back to Honduras to try and make it south out f the hurricane zone for Summer.

August – Vivorillos Islands of Honduras, Nicaraguan banks, San Andres and Albuquerque Caye, Colombia eroute to Panama.

September- One whole month in the incredible time warp called the San Blas archipelago of Panama.

October- Engine repairs in Panama at Shelter Bay marina with daily afternoon games of Volleyball.

November- Sailed to the beautiful walled city of Cartagena, Colombia for Carnaval. Made a deal to sell Pacifica that included flight to Florida. Finalized preparations for wedding in Belize for February 14. Kathy made a two week visit home to California... whew a busy month.

December- Sail to Panama for new dinghy, outboard engine and wine and champagne shopping for wedding. Sail up Chargres river in Panama then to Isla San Andres, Colombia. Plan flight home for Christmas at the last minute. After whirlwind tour to USA for Christmas with over 24 hours of travel each way very happy to be back on LightSpeed for New Years.
