Sorting out engine woes in Santa Cruz

Progress on our engine repairs sure had a slow start. This last week I've spent several hours each day on the phone and on the web and then in the engine room.

What I've discovered is that there is an Yanmar small engine shortage in the US and Yanmar engines are significantly more expensive in California than other states.

Example:

Yanmar 3YM30 with SD20 saildrive:
in Florida $9475 + 6% sales tax ($10,043)
in Oregon $9950 + Nothing ($9950)
in California $11000 + 9% tax ($11,990)
