Anchorage Position: Kovurof Bay, Atka Island 51 05' N 174 55' W
We've decided to take our time exploring Atka Island, it was either go slow or go fast to get out of the way of a storm due here on Tuesday. The few hundred miles between here and Unalaska Island lack all weather anchorages to weather the several days of SW 30 followed by a day or two of NW 25.
Atka island is teeming with Reindeer. Every cove we turn into we can see several dozen grazing on the hills or on the beach. The fishing has been fantastic everywhere on Atka. In Kovurof Bay there is a small stream with salmon running. Dave was casting a line out from the beach and caught 4 pink salmon. As he was quickly bringing into shore I saw a fox come out and make a run for the salmon. I shout for Dave to beat the fox before we lost the fish. Dave won out but we gave the fox some nice chunks that he quickly ran up into his lair.
That's it for now.
